Physiotherapy home visits in Merrylands

A five-minute drive from our base, so timing here is about as flexible as we can make it.

Merrylands has a large older population living in a mix of original cottages and the low-rise unit blocks that went up around the station. Units bring their own problems: a small bathroom, a step into the shower, and stairs to a laundry that nobody thinks about until someone stops being able to manage them.

In a walk-up flat the program has to fit the space. There is rarely a hallway long enough to practise a proper walking pattern, so the work goes into sit-to-stand, the stairwell itself, and the short trip to the letterbox and back.

We cover Merrylands and the streets around it — Merrylands West and Holroyd are all the same visit for us. About five minutes from our base in Guildford.

Local detail

Housing stock
A real mix of original cottages and walk-up unit blocks near the station. Walk-ups often mean a flight of stairs with no lift, which changes what a realistic program looks like.
A goal worth working toward here
Managing Stockland Merrylands independently, including the car park and the travelators, which asks more of someone's balance than most people expect.
Getting help at home
Where a Home Care Package or Support at Home budget is in place, physiotherapy is clinical care and there is nothing to pay out of pocket. The invoicing goes to the provider rather than the family.
